Today we're looking at another handheld dynamic microphone from Beyerdynamic, but this time it's a hypercardioid mic, and it is the M88TG. For this review, I have the mic connected directly to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen, with the gain set at 2:30.

The M 88 dynamic moving-coil microphone is the go-to microphone for when your session requires the highest demands from a mic, its convincing with its flexible application options. It can be used for miking vocals or instruments in the studio or on stage and is particularly popular for miking kick drums and guitar cabs.

Originally designed as a vocal mic - you've seen it used by the likes of Phil Collins, David Bowie, and Pat Benetar - it has become one of the world's most popular kick drum mics due to its extremely high SPL rating and excellent low end.

I like the m88 for vocals, but primarily in a live-in-the-room type situation where you can't use an LDC. The hyper pattern (right?) can be problematic for me as the pickup is pretty narrow, and easy to "fall off" the sweet spot.
